baby
wearing
Babywearing refers to carrying or "wearing" your baby in a sling or other type
of baby carrier. It is just within the past 25 years that we have discovered the
many wonderful benefits of wearing our babies that women in other cultures
have known for centuries.  Click here to read about the benefits and research on  baby wearing.  Aside from the wonderful benefits to the child, as far as just practical day to day activities, wearing a baby in a sling allows you to have your hands free to get things done around the house, do laundry or just be able to eat.  It is also a great way for you to get out of the house with the baby and to even breastfeed discretely.  And for those of you who have other children, wearing your new baby while playing with your toddler is a wonderful way to meet the needs of both children.  For me personally, wearing my son on my back has been so great, it's a guaranteed nap time for him, exercise for me and I can actually get things done around the house!

Many new parents who have used some of the more "mainstream" carriers,
such as the Baby Bjorn, are often disappointed when it quickly becomes too
uncomfortable to carry their baby.  There are plenty of other, very comfortable
options out there but searching for and finding the right one can be
overwhelming.  Also, with the recent sling recalls in the news, many parents are
hesitant to try babywearing. Click here for more information on the bag style
slings and why they are dangerous.

If you are new to babywearing or have a carrier and are unsure of how to safely
use it,  I offer babywearing consultations or small group workshops to familiarize
you with ring slings, pouch slings, mei tais, wraps and other soft structured
carriers.  See a variety of different ways each carrier can be used and learn
which one is best for certain situations.
